Cricket Bowling Tips – Performance in the Nets Compared to Bowling in Games

by Vatsal

I am 15 years old and I have been selected for the top team of my region which I just played a tournament which I hadn’t really performed in and also the top team for school in the best division for school cricket. I am performing well with the bat in both situations but when it comes to bowling, I tend to bowl at the fastest pace I can reach at this moment and am able to seam the ball in and out and do all sorts of things quite easily and I concentrate at 100% but in games, I mark a perfect run up and feel a great rhythm but as soon as I release the ball I happen to have the worst seam position and even tail-enders are able to read what ball I am about to bowl. I don’t bowl many wides but just not finding the length I want and not moving the ball in games. Would you have any tips or anything that I could improve on this?

Thanks

by: Coach Pybus Hi Vatsal, congrats on your performance, it sounds like you are
making good progress with your game.

For accuracy and control, put a target down on a length,
on the line of off stump and five paces from the stumps.

Practice bowling at it so you can develop consistency of length,
you will be able to master your stock ball length.

When you master your stock ball you will be able to control the
game when bowling.

For seam position, work with a partner and bowl to each other
standing 10 paces apart. Take your time and watch the seam in
the air, keep your palm behind the ball and pull down on the
seam. You will get backspin and will slowly master keeping the
seam vertical.

Master the vertical seam position, it will give you enough
variation when the wicket is seaming.

Best wishes Coach
